House Legend at Shiva
Friday 7th August 2009-Shiva at Whitehouse with guest Marshall Jefferson
We've had some pretty big headliners in or time here at Shiva, but for absolute house music royalty, they didn't get much bigger than this!!! Read on.....
Marshall Jefferson is one of the founding fathers of house music as it is known today. Born in Chicago in 1959, Marshall was a central figure in the development of the Chicago house scene and produced seminal house anthems including the genre-defining, ‘Move Your Body’. If it wasn't for Marshall none of us would have EVER uttered the words: “Gotta Have House Music!”.
He has worked with the best in the business, from fellow founding father Frankie Knuckles to Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and Felix Da Housecat to Li'l Louis. Mr Jefferson had a leading hand in the growth of the acid and deep house movements and even today continues to pioneer and evolve these genres.
He worked with DJ Pierre on his Acid Trax label, helped form the legenedaey house outfit, Ten City, worked with Robert Owens, CeCe Rogers and Kym Mazelle.
Later in life, he moved to London and began a five-year residency with the Tribal Gathering and Big Love events – even turning his hand to mixing the infamous Tribal Gathering compilation with James Lavelle.
We could go on! To have Marshall Jefferson fly over and be with us at Shiva is a real honour and we can't WAIT to see him grace the hallowed Shiva decks. Joining Marshall in the main room will be Shiva Head Honcho, Liam D and a smattering of Shiva's finest residents – Dean Steer, Nick Hudson, Thomas Scott-Soundy, Andy Gates and Ata x2.
Keeping things very filthy, dirty and techy upstairs will be Brady, James Edwards and the Dirty Drop Outs! Make sure you all get showered and are nice 'n' clean beforehand then!!! The filth starts here......
This will also be our last ever Friday at the Whitehouse (sob, sob, sob!), so please come down and share the end of an era with us in Clapham......
