Summary.... Interview with Soul Avengerz
THE ARTICLE Interview with the Soul Avengerz

1 What productions have you got coming up?

Paul: We have quite a few ready to road test Saturday night!!! Soul Avengerz Vs Butchered Beats - 'The Trumpet Shall Sound', Delano - 'Feels So Right 2009', Paul Gardner - 'Music Rising Up In My Soul', Knights of The Round Tables - 'Rumours' (out today!), Soul Avengerz - If You Want My Love. Plus a remix of 'Generate Power' for Strictly Rhythm records and new Kid Massive 'Get Busy' remixes.

2 We all have our own personal favourites but what would you say is YOUR favourite Soul Avengerz track?

Paul: Love You Feel.

Wayne: Mine would be our first track 'I'm In Love' just for sentimental reasons.

3 What are your top tips to beat the 'R' word and lift the gloom that's hanging over Britain at the mo?

Paul: Get people out dancing, having fun, forgetting their worries on a sat night

Wayne: Stock up on long-lasting foods such as beans, spaghetti hoops, soups etc. Ooops, I'm meant to be cheering people up. OK, get drunk (or whatever), dance ya tits off to the Soul Avengerz at Shiva, make love and worry about your troubles another day.

4 What's been the most embarrassing moment of your DJing career to date?

Paul: Wayne's shirts!

Wayne: Someone once asked whilst we were DJing at a club, if Paul was my Dad! Ha ha!!

5 When there are two DJs playing back-to-back, usually one is the better tune selector and the other better technically. Which one's which out of you both?

Paul: I'm better at both. Hehe...

Wayne: I'm younger, better-looking and have more hair! I'm the talent behind the brand and the driving force behind SODA (their label) but I'm very modest about it and don't like to brag. LOL Nah, we both have excellent tune selection skills and we've been complimented on our mixing skills wherever we've played. We let our music do the talking. We're not full of tricks or gimmicks. We play quality house music that has been carefully produced by talented people like ATFC, Chris Ortega, David Penn, Milk & Sugar, Jason Herd (etc) and their productions don't really need me tweaking and twisting the filter on a breakdown or echoing vocals. That kinda thing can make it all sound a bit synthetic.

6 You were residents at Pacha for four years with Dirty. Which tune would you say has had the biggest reaction on the 'floor?

Paul: Hard one, that is. The three that stick out in my mind are Soul Avengerz 'One Luv', Pete Heller 'Big Love' and Kurd Maverick 'The Rub'.

Wayne: I would say the best two tracks for Dirty, gauging the biggest response I can remember, were from Blaze 'Most Precious Love' (this used to tear the roof OFF!). Abigail Bailey did a live PA of 'Just Can't Get Enough' and the place again went potty.

7 You play to a crowd in an unknown territory, it's not going too well as the crowd aren't moving. What tune do you 'pull out of the bag' to win them back?

Paul: There probably isn't ONE track, more a slight change in direction. If we feel the crowd want it more vocally then we will drop more big vocals or, on the flip, if they want it tougher with less vocals; we can take it that way as well.

Wayne: Soul Avengerz dancefloors don't ever not move! But in the very unlikely event I would play, at present, Lee Cabrera 'Shake It'.

8 What was the last track you paid for on vinyl?

Paul: Wow, seems like an age ago now. Can't think! It was probably an obscure

French house track by the Dynamic Rockers.

Wayne: Yes seems so long ago but it was probably some juicy bootleg track. I miss the good old white labels as they're what made the world go round before these darker days of dodgy free downloading....

9 What can we expect of you both ahead of your set this Saturday for Shiva at Pacha?

Paul: Big room house, big beats, big vocals, big drops and lots of energy.

Wayne: Sexy, seductive house music at its very best and expect some very embarrassing dancing by Mr Gardner. It's hilarious. He dances like my dad!! See you all there!!!
