THE INTERVIEW
Shiva managed to catch up with Gordon Edge (Trumpet Man) before his guest appearance at SHIVA's 4th Birthday on Sunday 29th May. Here's what he had to say..............
1. You are famous for accompanying yourself on the trumpet. When did you first learn to play and what inspired you to use it during your DJ sets?
I started playing trumpet when I was a 10 year old at school. I had been DJ’ing a long time and always kept the two separate, someone suggested doing both and the 1st time I tried it in a club in Miami the reaction was amazing….so I just decided to develop it from there..
2. We often see you leaving the confines of the DJ booth and heading into the crowd mid-set. Has a clubber ever done anything crazy/unusual when you were out in the crowd? What's the most unusual thing that's happened at one of your gigs?
(LOL) Yes sometimes I head right to the middle of the dance floor when I'm DJ’ing and start playing the trumpet, it usually gets a positive reaction… one time this girl actually jumped on me when I was playing…so I took it a step further and didn't let her get off and took her back to the both with me haha!!
3. What is the worst gig you have ever had?
I try to forget things like that!.......what was the question again?
4. You are a resident at the legendary Bora Bora in Ibiza. What do you predict for the Ibiza season this year?
Some new venues opening up in Playa den Bossa….always good to have fresh places to go..looks like Amnesia are doing some interesting new things..some of the big clubs just repeat themselves too much and play it safe..
5. Which tunes never leave your box? Are there any magic records that you know will always win over a tricky crowd?
I’ve done some edits of edits of big tracks from a few years ago. They always 'work' if I need that sort of thing…sweet dreams is one of my tried / tested edits!
6. This is your 3rd time playing for SHIVA. What have you got in store for us this time?
I never plan sets… I'm just looking forward to great energy from the dance floor and I hope to bring some of the Ibiza energy with me to Shiva!
7. Finally, are you working on any new tracks or productions at the moment? When can we expect them to drop?
Got some new mixes for 'Itza Trumpet Thing' [from 1998] to be released soon just keep an eye on my label 'EDGE Records' on Beatport.com for my new releases/ productions…….
